From financial assistance to employment training; drop-in services to community homes; crisis intervention to educational advocacy, The Arc is committed to helping people with developmental disabilities live the most independent, productive life possible. Success Story THOMAS It’s a tradition at Chuy’s Restaurant in Annapolis, MD to have their employees celebrate their work anniversaries by leaving their handprint on their “Pride Wall”. Thomas, who receives workforce development support from The Arc, was hired as a bus-boy because of his previous restaurant experience, positive attitude, and bright smile. “As a busser who works at the ‘front of the house’—in the dining room clearing tables and interacting with customers—it’s important for us to hire someone who is responsible, personable and friendly, “ said Chuy’s General Manager, Douglas Degler. “Thomas already knew what was expected of the position and had restaurant experience, and during his interview he told me that he just wants to make people happy and smile.” How we're doing The Arc is working with housing specialists throughout Maryland to find homes, assist in securing funding and provide home-ownership training.
